Berwick Partners were delighted to recently host a lively dinner and discussion evening for technology leaders from across the UK Healthcare sector.
Overlooking St Paul’s Cathedral, a diverse crowd of senior leaders from a range of health organisations, including health-tech start-ups, private health providers, large acute trusts and community providers, all came together for a debate which fizzed with purpose.
This group are not content to be mere service providers. They see their role as being to challenge health’s somewhat inherent risk aversion. These were tech leaders at the heart of transformation, using innovation and a deep knowledge of their organisation’s needs to provide aligned tech offerings.
High on the agenda was a genuine need for collaboration across organisations plus the real opportunity for healthcare interventions posed by predictive analytics.
There was no desire for a return to a top-down imposed solution from the centre a la’ NPfIT, but rather people wondered if a gentle nudge to vendors, from the centre, towards encouraging interoperability may be needed.
There was a nod to the fact that technology alone cannot solve all the issues and some structural problems remain to be addressed in the health economy. However the group remained firmly enthused, and undaunted, by the challenge. We were left in no doubt that a lack of drive was not going to be the issue amongst this group.
