Berwick Partners was delighted to host an intimate round table breakfast event on Wednesday 21st September at Arley Hall & Gardens in Cheshire, bringing together a select group of HR Leaders from across the North West. Despite those in attendance coming from a diverse range of sectors, it was clear that HR faces the same significant challenges across the board – with change, in the broadest sense, being at the forefront.
Whatever the catalyst for change, the role of HR in change management is vital to gain the commitment of your people.
It was agreed that strong communication lies at the heart of change management and must be channelled across all layers of the organisation - from board level to the shop floor. Often employees know that change is on the horizon, and it is important that senior teams buy into the change early and ensure that their people understand why it is happening.
The speed at which change is implemented needs to be considered – dragging out the process will affect engagement levels. Equally, significant change overnight will be to the detriment of your people. Finding the equilibrium is crucial.
Implementation is not a ‘one size fits all’ approach. Set the framework for change but encourage senior managers to adopt the relevant architecture for their requirements. Appreciate local knowledge and expertise in the process, head office doesn’t always know everything.
Other discussions centered on the attraction of talent through a strong Employer Brand and the encouragement of Diversity. With the evolution of the digital age, employers must think creatively to reach key talent in today’s crowded market. Social media and employee reviews have become game-changing methods to attract the best calibre candidates and within this diversity lies at the heart. ‘Individuality’ and ‘Commonality’ must be celebrated!
Regardless of sector, there are huge synergies around the challenges HR faces in today’s economic climate. The aim of the event was to allow HR Leaders to meet and share knowledge amongst peers in the region.
