According to a recent survey carried out by the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC) 48% of UK employers expect to face a shortage of talent and suitable individuals in 2017.
The latest survey of employers also reveals that business confidence is improving, with 30% of employers feeling that economic conditions are improving - up from 27% in the previous rolling quarter. Meanwhile 38% expect hiring and investment to improve, up from 33% who said the same last month.
REC Chief Executive Kevin Green said “Employers are raising red flags about being unable to fill the roles they have available”.
“In 2015 UK businesses invested more than £45 billion in training and skills development”. He added that “employers need the required talent, attitude and skills of those to make businesses and public services successful.” He also highlighted that “across the economy, in high-skill sectors such as Engineering and Manufacturing employers are already facing labour shortages… The UK is at near-full employment.”
With this in mind, employers who want to successfully appoint the required talent to drive growth and take advantage of the current economic up-turn and rising confidence, will need to be pro-active and imaginative in their future recruitment campaigns. They will also need to have a strong, transparent and candid relationship with a leading recruiter in the specific functional area and/or sector.
