Berwick Partners recently attended the Public Sector People Managers (PPMA) Annual Seminar and Recruitment Awards at the Queens Hotel in Leeds. The two day programme was a mix of key note presentations, case studies and panel debates from across the public and private sectors.
In her Presidential Speech, Louise Tibbert from Hertfordshire County Council outlined the PPMA’s focus for the coming year under the theme of PRIDE, COMMUNITY, FUTURE. Of particular note was the view that the public sector is focusing more than ever on developing talent and trying to predict what leadership qualities and skills will be needed to shape future local services. Recent surveys indicate that senior leaders in the sector need to be passionate and resilient but increasingly commercially and technologically focused.
Integration was also a hot topic during the seminar, not just from the perspective of adult social care and health, but across all areas of public service. The view was that we must all question what we can do collectively for citizens whether we work for a council, the NHS, a charity or a private sector provider.
