Berwick Partners and Odgers Berndtson recently hosted an audience with Ian Barlow, Chair of HM Revenue and Customs. Mr Barlow spoke with CFOs and Global Heads of Tax about HMRC, the issues currently faced, and what steps are being taken to deal with these issues.
Mr Barlow was introduced by Baroness Virgina Bottomley, Chair of the Odgers Berndtson Board Practice. In a very candid presentation, Mr Barlow described the role of the HMRC as being responsible for implementing and applying policy which is created by Treasury Ministers, not HMRC. The prominent business leaders in attendance described their experiences of dealing with HMRC. Mr Barlow welcomed their comments and promised to take feedback back to senior management.
The audience were impressed with Mr Barlow's ability to engage a diverse group of individuals and seemingly address all their concerns.
