Thursday 17th September saw Berwick Partners, Odgers Berndtson and Odgers Interim hosted their annual Public Sector Reception with an exclusive address from the inimitable Lord Kerslake. Over 100 Chairs and Chief Executives drawn from Health, Housing, Education, Charities and Government enjoyed Lord Kerslake’s talk on “Working in the Public Sector: What should make us proud?”
Drawing upon his vast experience as Head of the Civil Service, Permanent Secretary at the Department for Communities and Local Government, Chief Executive of the Homes and Communities Agency and of course his time in Local Government, Lord Kerslake offered a wide range of food for thought. As might well be expected, his address was up-beat and reflected the breadth of his vantage points as Chair of numerous bodies including the Centre for Public Scrutiny. He also took questions from the floor on subjects as diverse as pay and conditions in the public sector through to plans for more affordable housing.
Guests enjoyed hospitality and networking before and after the speech which afforded an opportunity to mingle with individuals from all areas of the public and charitable sectors. Berwick Partners Managing Director, Richard Love commented; “It’s rare to get so many distinguished individuals in one room at the same time, but it is of course reflective of Berwick Partners and Odgers’ networks within so many sectors. It is also clearly testament to Lord Kerslake’s wisdom and experience which has offered us a unique insight into public services within the United Kingdom. It has been a fascinating evening and I hope that all of our guests have enjoyed it as much as we have.”
