Odgers Berndtson Group recently hosted a dinner at the impressive surroundings of the Manchester Art Gallery for 70 of the Northern region’s healthcare Executives and Non- Executives. Our guest speaker was the inspirational Alice Webb, Director, BBC Children's & BBC North. Alice shared her thoughts on managing complex change projects drawing on her experience of relocating the BBC to Salford five years ago.
With both the BBC and the NHS holding 'national treasure' status and being highly regulated there were clearly a lot of parallels between the healthcare sector’s challenges and what the BBC had achieved. Alice was hugely inspirational; speaking with authority, passion and honesty about the lessons learnt and the steps made to ensure a successful move northwards. Her speech generated lively debate and conversation around the room. Indeed she was by no means given an easy ride by our guests, having to face probing questions around both the BBC’s diversity and the objectivity of its news reporting. Nevertheless everyone left with a sense of having had an informative and enjoyable evening.
