Meggitt Sensory Systems – Head of Procurement

Published: 30 March 2010

In the spring of 2010, Meggitt Sensory Systems, part of Meggitt Plc, had a requirement to recruit for a Head of Procurement. This was not a straightforward piece of recruitment in that we were facing various challenges. Candidates needed to be at the appropriate managerial level, with a manufacturing background (preferably aerospace, engineering, automotive). They also needed to base themselves from Switzerland and speak fluent French. We proposed that this assignment should logically be run from the UK as we realised that the strongest candidate pool would probably be from that market. Meggitt chose to work with us because we were able to offer local market advice and combined assistance from both our London and Zurich offices; dovetailing together to form a comprehensive shortlist. The shortlist of four candidates all fully met the brief, including their ability to relocate and speak fluent business French. We also invited internal candidates into the process to ensure true market equality and a uniform technical interviewing process. This required an element of sensitivity and the need to provide transparent feedback to the global internal candidate pool, based anywhere from France to the States. To keep candidate travel expenses to a minimum, We held initial technical screening interviews in the UK before flying the shortlisted applicants to the client’s Swiss site for a full days set of bilingual meetings and a site tour. The Senior Vice-President Operations of Meggitt Sensory Systems has said “Berwick Group helped us to recruit a senior purchasing executive where the requirements called for a combination of industry experience, multi-lingual skills and relocation within Europe. We were very satisfied with the support and regular communication throughout the process and the timeliness in locating a suitable candidate. We would not hesitate to use their services again.”
