We are all aware of the role CSR plays in enhancing employee motivation, engagement and strengthening in-house relationships. During this unprecedented period the importance of CSR is all that more critical.
At Berwick Partners we host an office ‘Happy Hour’ on a Friday once a month along with making a small donation to our corporate charity partner. I’m proud that this is just one of many regular CSR initiatives we run. Last week’s ‘Happy Hour’ was via Zoom. With a few alternations to the format we were up and running, catching up with our colleagues and providing a much-needed morale boost.
CSR is something that every business should not just value but have firmly placed on the agenda. Not just because it’s the right thing to do (which it is) but because it will help attract and retain talent; providing a sense of purpose outside of the day job.
Whilst getting used to the new normal here at Berwick we are coming up with new ideas to keep up our CSR efforts whilst practising social distancing. These will both keep us feeling united as a business whilst apart but also ensure we ‘do our bit’ for charity. We send out a weekly ‘mid-week treat’ email on a Wednesday that highlights uplifting stories from the week as well as issuing regular remote working ‘survival guides’. We also have a virtual bingo evening planned and our resident office baker is sending across ideas and easy recipes for us to try at home. All these initiatives have been arranged in exchange for a voluntary donation towards our chosen charity. This situation has given us all a chance to be creative with our CSR efforts. Collaborate and play on the strengths of individuals – it’s an opportunity to keep everyone feeling involved and united.
The charity sector has, unfortunately, already started to see the financial impact from the coronavirus, with charities needing us now more than ever. Individually, if you can donate the cost of your usual commute, gym membership or the value of a night out to a couple of charities close to your heart, then please do.
Our corporate charity partners this year are Leonard Cheshire, to donate follow the link here.
