Diversity and Higher Education

On Thursday 19th March, Berwick Partners, in conjunction with their colleagues in Odgers Berndtson and Odgers Interim, joint-hosted a brainstorm breakfast with London Higher.  Held at our Cannon Street Offices, the event invited Chairs and Deputy Chairs of Institutions that are members of London Higher and focused exclusively on the issue of diversity in Higher Education Leadership within London. 

The breakfast was part of a HEFCE-funded project that London Higher are currently delivering; working with 22 institutions from within their member and partner group, they are exploring some of the different issues related to this agenda and facilitating a space for ideas and the development of new ways of working.

Expertly chaired by The Leadership Foundation for Higher Education’s Aaron Porter (Associate Director, Governance), the debate was lively and wide-ranging.  Keynote speakers included;

·  Baroness Virginia Bottomley; Board and CEO Practice, Odgers Berndtson

·  Jane Glanville; Chief Executive Officer, London Higher

·  Alison Johns; Chief Executive Officer, The Leadership Foundation for Higher Education

·  Sir Nicolas Montagu;  Chairman, Queen Mary University London

Berwick Partners’ Elizabeth James was one of the hosts and commented “Higher Education is a critical pillar of the United Kingdom’s intellectual and social heritage.  The extent to which its leadership reflects all elements of our global society is integral to the sustainability of its world-leading position.  The contribution of London Higher and its members in driving forward this debate should be applauded.”
