Berwick Partners’ Local Government Appointments

29 June 2015

Some interesting assignments have led to successful appointments for Berwick Partners. Detailed below is a selection of roles we have recently appointed to:

Doncaster Council - Director of Learning Opportunities and Skills (Director of Children’s Services)
Doncaster has undergone a significant period of transition and change, and their unique Children’s Services model provided interest and challenge in the recruitment of the Director of Opportunities, Learning and Skills. Working closely with the Council, we communicated the clear vision to make Doncaster a gateway to opportunity; locally, nationally and internationally and supported an outstanding appointment to work in partnership with Team Doncaster to ensure that Doncaster and its people thrive.

Worcestershire County Council - Senior Brand Manager
This is one of the more unusual job titles to be found in Local Government. Worcestershire were very clear that they wanted to achieve more through this appointment than the traditional local government head of communications remit. This offered us the scope to search within and beyond the sector and Worcestershire were able to secure the appointment of a candidate with a background in broadcast journalism, both here and abroad as well as significant agency-side experience.

Warwickshire County Council – Head of Service for Children's Social Care and Safeguarding
The challenges appointing to children’s safeguarding roles are over-rehearsed and well-understood. We were fortunate to be able to spend time with Warwickshire to really understand what they required for this role in order that we had a clearly differentiated proposition to take to market. This resulted in Warwickshire being able to confidently appoint to this role.

Kent County Council – Director Strategic Business Development & Intelligence
Another atypical role, designed to enable data and intelligence to inform future service delivery models which generated a lot of interest from across the sectors, with a candidate being appointed with a wholly commercial sector background.
