A leading trade and industry body representing food businesses in the UK and Internationally was looking to recruit a replacement for their Director of Communications who was moving on after a number of successful years leading the organisations communications and public affairs strategy and team. The business required a speedy yet comprehensive recruitment solution in order to ensure a new appointment was made in advance of the incumbent leaving.
Berwick Partners were appointed to work on this assignment due to our expertise and track record of recruiting similarly challenging roles within comparable businesses and our over arching knowledge of the food and drink sector and contacts with leading communications professionals in the UK and Internationally.
One of the key challenges of this appointment where that the exiting Director of Communications was highly regarded by the industry, well networked in government and had many years managing communications campaigns around the key issues affecting the sector. Their shoes were going to be hard to fill. Another challenge was to find an individual equally adept at working with global brands as well as smaller owner managed businesses, someone who could be a representative voice for the industry as a whole.
Berwick Partners adopted a multi channel recruitment strategy for this appointment. Highly targeted online advertising attracted the active job seeker, targeted search activity identified and then approached well regarded communications professional in the field and we utilised our extensive network of contacts in order to pull together a high quality shortlist within four weeks. Our team worked tirelessly to achieve their objectives within a tight time period and our client was extremely impressed with both the speed in which we delivered and calibre of candidates presented to them.
The resulting appointment was well received by the food and drink sector and the new Director of Communications has had significant success driving key messages to multiple stakeholder groups around issues such as sustainability, health and wellbeing, nutrition and the economic value of the country’s food and drink sector to the UK’s economic recovery.
