Director of Development - Brasenose College, Oxford

The Role

The position offers exciting opportunities and challenges for an ambitious and highly motivated individual with a commitment to working in a demanding and rewarding educational environment. This is a significant and wide-ranging role with responsibilities spanning development strategy, fundraising and events coordination, alumni relations and management of the Brasenose Development Office.

The Director of Development will have a key role in matching the opportunities for maximising support for the College with the academic priorities of the College, as determined by the Governing Body and the Development Committee.

Such support will principally take the form of:

  • Attracting benefactions and raising funds for the support of fellowships, student bursaries and major capital projects, alongside the regular annual gift income of the College. The Director of Development will develop and implement a fundraising strategy which is designed to maintain and improve both the educational and research activities and the physical, social and cultural environment of the College.
  • Fostering relations with former members of the College and with other external individuals and institutions well-disposed to the College, in such a way as to create fruitful synergies between these groups and the current senior and junior members of the College across the full range of the College’s academic, sporting, cultural and social activities.  

The Candidate

  • Proven ability to take a strategic view of development activities and the Developments Office’s role in delivery.
  • A proven track record of successful fundraising, demonstrating in particular the ability to raise large gifts through direct personal approaches and to support others who make personal approaches on behalf of the college.
  • The imagination and negotiation skills to identify new opportunities for securing major benefactions.
  • Demonstrable maturity, particularly the ability to interact easily and professionally with sophisticated and diverse alumni, benefactors and academics of all ages and nationalities.
  • Clear sympathy with the aims and values of higher education, including those of Oxford.
