Head of the School of Education - University of Leeds, Faculty of Social Sciences - Salary: Grade 9 or Grade 10

The University of Leeds is one of the United Kingdom’s leading academic institutions. A member of the prestigious Russell Group, it is host to a diverse community of more than 38,000 students from over 170 countries and over 9,000 staff of over 100 different nationalities. September 2020 saw Professor Simone Buitendijk take up the office of the Vice Chancellor and it is clear that this is a very exciting time for the University.

The Faculty of Social Sciences comprises four Schools and is host to world class teaching and research that engages with many of the important societal challenges facing the world today. The School of Education has a distinguished history and ambitious plans that put it at the heart of the University’s strategy for societal impact.

The School aspires to create, advance, and disseminate knowledge about the theory and practice of education that facilitates the education and well-being of the next generation of global citizens, and bring about more inclusive, just and prosperous societies. It teaches at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and is the university partner for the Red Kite Teaching School Alliance, a large provider of School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) PGCEs.

The role of Head of the School of Education is an excellent opportunity for a person with academic credibility and strong leadership skills who is able to maximise the strategic opportunities arising from the changing landscape of higher education and the University’s strategic plan, whilst leading and delivering excellence in research and education. The post-holder will be an active member of the University’s Leadership Forum and of the Executive Committee of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Candidates should have the leadership skills, ambition, and creativity to take forward the development and delivery of the School’s academic strategy and objectives. They will be collaborative in approach but equally hold a personal sustained track record of excellence in research and/or student education.
