The Role

Greene King is one of the UK’s leading leisure operators. The company employs over 37,000 people and has nearly 3,000 pubs, restaurants and hotels, including popular national brands such as Hungry Horse, Farmhouse Inns, Chef & Brewer, Loch Fyne, Pub & Grill. It is also the country’s leading cask ale brewery with brands such as Greene King IPA and Old Speckled Hen.

Over the past few years, there has been some exciting changes at Greene King. Nick Mackenzie joined as CEO from Merlin Entertainments, and in October 2019 the newest chapter of Greene King’s 200-year history began, when the business was acquired by Li Ka-Sheng and CKA investments. The business is now focusing more than ever on their culture and values; concentrating more on customers and brand and sales, rather than being predominantly cost- driven. They aim to be more aligned as a business, more innovative and more agile.

As Greene King grow, they need more exceptional talent to help continue to pour happiness into people’s lives. They are now seeking a Head of Diversity and Inclusion, who will be intrinsic to the business.

This role will drive the hugely important diversity and inclusion strategy and transformation agenda across the organisation. This senior HR role will report into the People and Culture Director, regularly engaging with and providing advice to the leadership team. This role is an exciting opportunity to deliver real change across the organisation at all levels, whilst continually offering subject matter expertise.


As Head of Diversity and Inclusion you will:

  •  Create and implement an effective diversity and inclusion strategy
  • Build on the work already done to create a culture of diversity and inclusion
  • Support the business on all inclusion related challenges
  • Develop trusted relationships and work collaboratively with leaders across the business, staff network groups and Trade Unions
The Candidate
  • Previous diversity and inclusion transformation and strategy experience
  • Extensive knowledge on how to drive change across an organisation within the diversity and inclusion space
  • In-depth knowledge of legislative framework that supports diversity and inclusion
  • Able to work effectively in a multi-faceted organisation, taking into account all business areas and their needs when making decisions
  • Experience of working with and influencing senior stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills, commercial acumen, gravitas and confidence are also required
