Head of Colleague Health and Safety - Great Places Housing Group – Greater Manchester - Competitive Salary

As the incoming Head of Health and Safety, reporting to the Director of Assurance, and as a member of Great Places’ Leadership Team, you will drive forward our corporate health and safety strategy, and provide strategic leadership for Health and Safety across all areas of the organisation to employment and service provision.


The Role

  • Lead the formulation of the Great Places Health & Safety Strategy.
  • To develop and implement a Health and Safety culture across Great Places, based on a solid foundation of best practice and competency, ensuring compliance with legislation, including approved codes of practice, regulations and official guidance and standards.
  • To lead the identification of employee Health & Safety training needs and develop and deliver training as required.
  • To advise the board and senior management team on the implications of current and emerging health and safety legislation, including evaluating options, making recommendations and generating action plans to ensure compliance across the organisation.
  • To assist managers to maintain safe systems of work, providing specialist advice, coaching and practical support.
  • To lead the audit of key business risk areas including repairs, Independence & Wellbeing and Customer Health & Safety (building compliance)


The Candidate

  • Degree level education or equivalent through relevant training/experience.
  • A proven track record of delivery of health and safety management systems.
  • Proven relationship builder and influencer with stakeholders.
  • Proven experience of implementing a Health and Safety strategy across an organisation.  
  • Knowledge of the legislative and managing BS OHSAS 18001:2007.
  • An ability to recognize, develop and effectively promote best practice for Great Places.
