Director of the Plymouth Institute of Education - University of Plymouth, Arts, Humanities and Business Faculty - Senior Manager Scale Salary

The University of Plymouth is seeking to appoint a Director of Plymouth Institute of Education (PIoE) to provide bold and strategic leadership to the School, reporting to the Executive Dean, Faculty of Arts Humanities and Business. One of three Faculties within the University, the Faculty brings together a community of thinkers and practitioners across five areas: the School of Art, Design and Architecture, the School of Humanities and Performing Arts, Plymouth Institute of Education, Plymouth Business School and the School of Law, Criminology and Government. It is ambitious for itself and its students, striving for excellence across its Education, Research and Knowledge Exchange activities.

PIoE has been educating teachers since 1946. Undergraduate courses offer many opportunities for work-based learning, and encourage postgraduate study in a range of educational and health settings. Over 90% of our BEd graduates go straight into employment after they have graduated. By studying with us, our students embark on what could be the first steps of a ‘learning journey’ within Higher Education, leading them on to postgraduate study on a PGCE (Primary or Secondary specialisms), masters degree and in time, a professional doctorate at postgraduate level (EdD Education) or PhD.

The Director role is primarily responsible for formulating and operationalising academic strategy, ensuring appropriate plans and resources are in place for their delivery. A truly exciting time to lead the Institute of Education, building on its existing strengths and developing new and innovative ways of taking the School forward.

Approachable and visible, the Director role brings engaging leadership amidst a context of rapid change within the University and HE sector as a whole. You will need to be adept at direction setting, delegation and engaging staff in their part in delivering results for the sustainable success of the Institute, Faculty and University.

You will already be a consummate professor in your field, who is now seeking an opportunity to build on the School’s success to date and develop it for the future. You will bring with you a collaborative management style, with the ability to engage staff, peers and students as you work together to deliver results. Your ability to navigate and support others through change will be critical to the success of the Institute.

All activities undertaken within this role will be compliant with the University’s policies, including Health & Safety, Equality and Diversity, Ethics, Data Protection etc.
