Director of People - Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People - c£60,000 + benefits (flexible/part-time working will be considered) - Loughborough, Leicestershire

Since 1994, Rainbows opened its doors and hearts to those children and the people who love them most.

As the East Midlands’ only hospice for children and young people, Rainbows is a place where children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their families can find care and support. Our incredible team of people help with end of life care, symptom management and respite care. We're also there to support parents and siblings through their bereavements.

The Director of People is a key role on the Senior Leadership Team and the successful candidate will be joining at an exciting time as we enter a new exciting strategic period and remain focused on providing expert care, support and advice to even more families across the region.

This is a challenging, yet extremely rewarding, opportunity for a senior leader, who will provide visible and professional leadership to our HR and People Team. The successful candidate will develop and implement volunteer models fit for the future, ensure that true equality, diversity and inclusion is threaded through everything we do, and inspire a culture of continuous improvement and innovation across the organisation that supports the successful delivery of our strategy.


The Role
  • The post holder will develop and lead the People Strategy, key in creating a high performing and values driven culture within the organisation that supports the delivery of our strategy.
  •  To lead and develop our people support functions, including learning and development, recruitment, HR services and volunteering, providing timely and appropriate HR and management advice to leaders, managers, staff and volunteers of the Hospice.
  • Ownership of the staff survey and the establishment of clear employee feedback mechanisms for results and priorities.
  • A member of the Senior Executive Team reporting to the Board on people related matters and strategy progress, they will also be contributing to overall business strategy and development.

The Candidate
  • Senior HR professional with experience across all facets of HR.
  • Previous experience of building effective relationships with senior stakeholders.
  • Proven experience of thinking strategically and analysing issues to identify and implement creative solutions.
  • Credible and confident, possessing the presence as well as the depth of HR experience to inspire and drive change.
  • Demonstrable experience of successfully leading and delivering a range of organisational development interventions to meet strategic goals in an organisation which is constantly evolving.
  • Experience of leading change programmes in a values-based organisation.
  • Experience of delivering a people-orientated strategy with a strong bias to diversity and inclusion.
  • Demonstrable experience of building a performance culture, ensuring effective understanding and skills development for employees at all levels.
