Chief Executive Officer – Bath Preservation Trust – Salary: £60,000

Originally founded in 1934 as a small pressure group, the Bath Preservation Trust today exists to ‘preserve for the benefit of the public the historic character and amenities of the City of Bath and its surroundings’.

Over the years, the Trust has saved many listed buildings across the City from demolition. Engaging with the local authority and developers, the Trust plays an important role inspecting and responding to planning applications and listed building consent applications, providing informed statements at planning meetings and as expert witnesses at public enquiries.

The Trust owns and runs four museums around the City including No. 1 Royal Crescent, the Museum of Bath Architecture, Beckford’s Tower and the Herschel Museum of Astronomy and as a result, has an important part to play in the visitor economy of the City. The Trust also runs a range of education and community engagement activities across Bath.

We are looking to recruit a new CEO to replace Caroline Kay who will be leaving the Trust later in year after fourteen successful years in post. The new CEO will lead a small but talented team and be responsible for driving the Trust’s recovery post COVID. The new individual will be an agent for change and will lead the implementation of the Trust’s strategic plan, assisting the organisation rebuild into the future.

The Person:

We seek an inspirational leader for the role of CEO. You have excellent leadership and management skills, be a brilliant communicator and have the ability to build relationships and partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders internally and externally.

A working knowledge of planning and development and an understanding of the challenge of preserving historic buildings and landscapes would be beneficial as would management experience in a complex business, cultural, heritage or arts organisation or visitor attraction, with an understanding of how to run a third sector organisation profitably.

You will be a confident communicator and presenter with the ability to be the face and voice of the Trust. You will also have strong financial planning and budgeting skills.
