The Company

Stoke-on-Trent is a city on the up - a city with many positives that is changing for the better. Investment, innovative thinking, and significant improvements in areas such as social care, housing and education have led to a renewed sense of confidence and ambition.

We have been confirmed as the best area in the country for economic growth, we have been named as one of the most cultural places to live by the Sunday Times and we’re one of the greenest cities in the country with acres of green open spaces and parks.

Our team are passionate, ambitious, and excited about shaping a positive future in Stoke-on-Trent with children at its centre. We have a new city director and a new director for children and family services who both bring additional emphasis to our strong vision for the future.

We are open about the challenges we face, and the improvement journey we are on. As in any city, there will be tough challenges and difficult decisions to make. With this comes the opportunity to make a real and positive impact and drive through genuine change.

Children are our number one priority, and we want every child to thrive and to be reaching their full potential. We also want Stoke to be the best place for a social worker, where you can focus on working with children and families to deliver positive outcomes.

We are investing in a new learning and development programme; ensuring that you have access to high-quality learning, development opportunities and support, whichever stage of your career you are. We are currently embedding the Restorative and Relational model into our practice, and all practitioners will be fully trained in this proactive strength-based approach when joining the local authority.

At Stoke-on-Trent there is a lot to be done but we are committed, confident and capable. We are keen to use your views, ideas, and expertise to help us to get better. This presents hugely unique opportunities for personal and professional development.

If you are looking for a challenging, diverse, and rewarding role, one where you will be supported every step of the way, then Stoke-on-Trent City Council could be the place for you.
