As one of the youngest and most diverse areas in England and Wales, hosting the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games put Newham on the global map.
Our ambition did not end with the Olympics. With new housing and new town centres at Canning Town and Custom House; London’s only Enterprise Zone at the Royal Docks and with one of the biggest council house-building programmes in the country, Newham is home to many of Europe’s most spectacular regeneration and place making programmes. The borough will see the arrival of 5 new Cross rail stations with 37,500 new homes and 100,000 new jobs created by 2027.
Working with our Corporate Director of Inclusive Economy and Housing and our Director of Planning and Development, our Director of Housing will play a central role in one of Newham’s key priorities – delivering and supporting sustainable and genuinely affordable homes for Newham residents. Together, you will ensure that all our communities benefit from the borough’s growth and employment and skills opportunities.
As our Housing Director, you will take strategic leadership responsibility for the delivery of a wide and dynamic portfolio of activities and provision within Housing, including management of our housing stock of circa 16,000 properties, services to tenants and leaseholders, repairs and maintenance and small works.
This is a key role that will provide strategic leadership and operational responsibility for a wide portfolio of housing services at the forefront of helping shape and lead the successful economic and social future of Newham.
With a strong and demonstrable track record within the housing sector, you will be able to demonstrate a successful and innovative track record and approaches to enabling the delivery of key priorities within our new corporate plan around housing management including increasing the supply of good quality temporary accommodation, reducing homelessness through engagement and supportive approaches and maximising the council housing stock.
You may currently be working within a local authority or Registered Provider, where you will have gained significant experience of having worked across a wide range of housing settings and be capable of providing confident, credible and effective leadership within one of the most complex but also dynamic landscapes in the UK.
A qualified housing professional with extensive experience of leading and developing high performing housing management teams within the housing association sector, you will be an able and effective, strategic thinker who can point to having devised and implemented innovative ways to improve performance and opportunities for the organisation and our customers.
