Chief Officer People & Organisational Development
Avon & Somerset Police
£103k - £116k plus package

Avon & Somerset Police serves and protects a significant proportion of the West of England; a diverse and complex community including the City of Bristol and its urban fringes as well as more rural and isolated communities. With a high-calibre workforce of 6000 split between police officers and non-uniformed professional support staff, the Force is well-regarded, modernising, forward and outward looking.

Reporting to the Deputy Chief Constable, the Chief Officer People & Organisational Development will fulfil a key corporate leadership role as a member of the senior team. The remit encompasses not only the full breadth of a large HR & OD portfolio, but also a range of additional enabling services. No two days will be the same – offering intellectual stretch and challenge in equal measure. There is a talented team to be led, supported and developed which, in turn, will support the Force through a period of sustained growth and increased productivity. This will demand innovative approaches to leadership development, inclusion and resource optimisation to ensure the Force remains focused on the needs of today with an eye to the demands of the future.

Irrespective of your career and sector background to date, you will be a proven HR & OD leader offering a broader corporate view and an appreciation of the scope, scale and complexity that Avon & Somerset Police offers. You will relish the opportunity to be challenged in a high pace, high tempo environment, to bring constructive challenge as the Force continues to evolve. You will enjoy working with people, partners and stakeholders who few ever have the chance to engage with and to be part of a high-performance organisation. Your values and commitment to the principles of public service will be absolute and you will share the Force’s ambitions for excellence. In doing so, Avon & Somerset Police’s position and reputation will be reaffirmed and enhanced.
