The School of Life Sciences is one of the largest Schools in the University, both in terms of research activity and student / staff population. It engages with real world problems and produces impact in fields as varied as cancer biology, drug discovery, neuroscience and biodiversity. 87% of its research in biological sciences was rated as internationally excellent or higher in the most recent Research Excellence Framework, with 48% rated as world-leading. Meanwhile, its teaching is strongly research-led and focused on developing the skills and employability of the next generation of scientists and innovators.
The position of Head of the School of Life Sciences is an exciting opportunity to lead the next phase of development at this important chapter in Sussex’s evolution. The appointee will have strong experience of academic leadership, an established and active international research profile and a track record of innovation and excellence in teaching. With an inclusive management style and the ability to foster partnerships, build relationships and work collaboratively across boundaries, the new Head of School will play a significant role in the onwards journey of both the School and the University.
