There has never been a better time to live and work in Dudley

About Dudley

Just 30 minutes west of Birmingham the borough of Dudley includes the towns of Dudley, Stourbridge, Brierley Hill, and Halesowen and hosts a wide range of events and activities across a diverse range of visitor attractions, historic buildings, beautiful nature reserves and parks. Put simply, there is something for everyone.

The historical capital of the Black Country, Dudley's rich industrial heritage was at the heart of the industrial revolution and our history is rich with innovation, drive and determination.

Fast forward to the present and those historical traits are embedded within the modern culture of Dudley and the borough is a now a vibrant, multi-cultural hub with strong communities, beautiful parks and open spaces and a mix of shops and restaurants.

Currently at the heart of a multi-million pound regeneration plan there is significant investment in the borough with a number of key projects including; regeneration of Dudley Town Centre, the creation of DY5 - a brand new Business and Innovation Enterprise Zone and a major new Midland Metro infrastructure.

Dudley will also soon be home to a new institute of technology and a very light rail development centre, which will see a future of fulfilling career opportunities and new skills development at the forefront of advanced manufacturing and digital technologies.

The Role

We are seeking to transform and modernise how we deliver services, grow Dudley’s economy, and provide a Borough that offers a wide and diverse range of housing that both supports our communities and provides places where people choose and aspire to live. Critical to this is the role of Director of Housing and Communities, which will play a key and wide-ranging role in shaping our housing programme to ensure it is central to our approach to place making and place based services. We have significant ambitions to take a more active and leading role in the provision of housing in the Borough, and this role requires finding creative ways by which to bring forward and develop strategic sites, working with our partners to support sustainable communities.

We are entirely open to candidates’ backgrounds and it may be that you have worked in either local government, Housing Associations or Registered providers or even the commercial sector and perhaps at the interface of them all. What is critical to us, is that you thrive in an environment that places great emphasis on place making and exceptional customer service to residents and communities
