The School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment is located within the College of Art, Architecture, Design and Humanities. It provides professionally-accredited undergraduate and postgraduate courses including (but not limited to) Civil Engineering, Real Estate, Construction, Architecture, and Product Design, all of which have strong links with industry. The School has a lively research culture that has been driven by EPSRC, ESRC and DEFRA funding (amongst others) and operates in close collaboration with partners from a range of sectors.Recent success include a €6m Horizon 2020 Grant.

The role of Associate Dean for Research is an opportunity for an exceptional candidate to take the research agenda to the next exciting level in the School’s evolution. With strong foundations and exceptional facilities in place, there is huge scope to augment both the quality and quantity of outputs in preparation for the next round of the Research Excellence Framework and, more importantly, in line with NTU’s overall strategy. Reporting to the Dean of the School, and working closely with the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and the Director of the University’s Research Office, the appointed candidate will develop, implement, and monitor the School’s Research Plan through stimulating further high-quality research activity.

NTU is seeking to attract an experienced research leader with a strong personal academic profile. The successful candidate will have a sound knowledge of grant capture, research capacity, capability and impact, combined with the ability to manage and inspire individuals at all levels of seniority. Integral to this will be a personal drive to enable the achievement of global research excellence, accompanied by a genuine appreciation of the impact that research can have upon society as a whole.
