Director of Public Health
Herefordshire Council
To c£82.5k plus market supplement

Herefordshire Council has made significant progress over the last couple of years and continues to lead public service reform within the County to better respond and serve the needs of Herefordshire’s communities. Significant transformation and sustainable improvement in Social Care, innovative plans for a new University in Hereford lodged with Government, a clear focus on further economic development and inward investment in conjunction with commercial partners and the Marches LEP, well-advanced and ambitious enabling infrastructure work all signal a clear commitment to ambitious and forward looking place-shaping.

In order to reinforce this, we are now adamant that we will mainstream Public Health across the organisation and broader system in Herefordshire. This requires an exceptional leader able to both fulfil the statutory requirements of the DPH post as well as work effectively across the County to improve Health and Public Health outcomes in Herefordshire. Our population is such that it is possible to make a significant and demonstrable difference; we need to leverage the whole Council budget to do this and that requires a skilled corporate and systems leader.

You’ll play a key role in the STP, in further developing relations with Health – the CCG and acute partners and raising the profile and visibility of the service across the Council. Data and intelligence-led, you will ensure that what we do makes a positive difference across the County. You will bring a different perspective and range of experiences to ground Public Health and Prevention in Herefordshire.

You will be skilled at working with a wide range of partners – able to see the bigger preventative picture whilst retaining a grip on operational detail and contract delivery. You may be working in or alongside Local Government now – but either way, you will be ambitious and driven to develop your career in a fantastic place and in a forward and outward-looking Authority.

For an informal and confidential discussion, please speak with our advisors at Berwick Partners; Jonathan Clark on 0121 654 5926, or Ruth Hernandez Turner on 0121 654 5936.
