Head of School of Education and Social Sciences, University of Hull
Hull
Salary: Competitive

The University of Hull has been shaping the future since 1927. With a vision that emphasises the pursuit of excellence, the Institution’s plans are bold and ambitious. Central to this is significant investment in its campus, and the provision of a genuinely supportive environment for Faculty and students alike. The recent appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Susan Lea, represents a new chapter in the Institution’s evolution and there can be little doubt that the next few years represent a significant opportunity for the University of Hull to further define its position within the UK Higher Education Sector, and to build on many of its recent successes, not least its support for the Hull City of Culture celebrations in 2017.

The School of Education and Social Sciences sits within the Faculty of Arts, Cultures and Education which is led by Professor Brigitte Resl. Fundamentally multi-disciplinary in composition, it is host to a range of subjects including Criminology, Sociology, Education Studies, and Initial Teacher Education. The School is in a consistently good position in terms of student recruitment, has strong NSS scores, and has secured a steady stream of research funding across a variety of areas.

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding Professor and Head of School who will provide visionary leadership and management. This will include further enhancing interdisciplinarity, maintaining a stimulating research culture, and ensuring the provision of exceptional teaching and learning opportunities for students. She or he will be academically credible, with a notable personal research track record and experience of teaching. Additionally the extent to which the School plays a full and effective role in the University and indeed the wider geographical region will be critical, as will the wherewithal to deliver against an ambitious corporate vision.
