The ECITB is the statutory skills body for the engineering construction industry in Great Britain. It works closely with employers and the Government to attract develop and qualify engineering construction personnel in a wide range of craft, technical and professional skills and disciplines.
The ECITB also has international operations and supports clients in 18 countries, supporting the development of engineering and project delivery skills across the energy, processing and construction sectors.
Employer-led, the ECITB provides businesses with the support to train the engineers of today and tomorrow to the highest standards, via a regionally based network of 172 approved training providers (ATPs).
The current Finance Director has been with the organisation for the last 11 years. During that time the financial operations of the ECITB have increased significantly in terms of size and complexity and this role has in turn broadened. They are now more heavily involved in the wider governance and commercial sides of the organisation, hence the need to appoint a high quality Finance Director.
This therefore offers an opportunity for a talented and ambitious finance professional to join the organisation at a key time in its development. The finance function is strong and effective; however there will be an ongoing drive to make it more ‘business focussed’. The Finance Director will have full responsibility for the financial operations of the organisation and in addition will also lead the IT function and be expected to support the Executive in all commercial activities.
The successful candidate will be able to display clear, consistent career development to date. They could be drawn from nearly any sector; however they will bring with them a strong understanding of best practice within a high quality function. They will be able to demonstrate a strong all round systems background and have the ability to instil a systematic approach within the finance function and the organisations’ broader managerial activities.
From a technical perspective, they will be a qualified accountant and have a solid grounding in all of the core financial disciplines of Control, Commercial Finance, Operations and Transformation. They will likely be at the point in their career where they are ready to take the step up to Director grade, being able to demonstrate a high degree of emotional intelligence, gravitas and independent strategic thought.
They will be looking for an opportunity to operate within an SME style environment, where they can be exposed to all parts of the organisation. They will possess a high level of drive and an appetite to make a positive impact right across the organisation both from a strategic and operational perspective. They will be appreciative of the fact that this is still a public body, albeit with significant commercial interests. Therefore they will be sensitive to the cultural nuances of the organisation and possess a high degree of emotional intelligence to work within this, while still being effective at driving change.
